The Bai Rui Taekwon-Do club in Toowong has been running for over 20 years, and has been in its current location at the St Ignatius School for over 10 years. The club was started in the university campus at St Lucia by Mr Hajime Isomura. He was a fundamental ingredient in the Bai Rui School, as he provided a role model for the entire student base at that time. He finally left and returned to Japan, however before leaving he donated a perpetual award to the school, which is entitled "The Hajime Isomura Award for Self Control” and is presented yearly. The club caters to all ages, with many families training together. Students are treated with respect and given plenty of training and encouragement to develop their skills in all of the mental and physical aspects encompassed by the art of Taekwon-Do. The club is currently instructed by Mr Scott Lawrance who has trained since starting with Bai Rui in 1998. He has taken opportunities to train overseas with Masters and regularly trained with Senior Master Charles Birch, the school’s founder and other seniors and enjoys passing on knowledge and helping students develop through their training.
